Potato Starch Production Plant
Another production plant, completed in 2013 was the Potato Starch Plant. This investment was brought into being to provide the farmers the opportunity to produce more potato and to prevent potato starch import.
Potato agriculture is carried our in many parts of our country, which has the 7th largest agricultural economy in the world. Although there are no problems in terms of production and even some potatoes are left to toy due to excess supply, our country supplies all of its potato starch requirement through importing. Our country imports around 30 tons of potato starch to be used in baby food and food industry and has to pay approximately 30 million dollars of foreign currency for it. Konya Seker, took action due to this, began production by completing Potato Starch Factory.
While the facility, which produces potato starch for the first time in our country, ensures potato starch, all of which had been supplied through importing, to be produced from domestic agricultural products, it also contributes to the increase in potato production volume. When the facility reaches full capacity, undersize potatoes of the producers will not remain unsold and farmers in the region will be able to plant approximately 180 additional tons of potatoes for 30 tons of potato starch.
Thanks to this investment, which will increase potato production volume of the region many times, the resource, reserved for import will increase the income of the farmers of the region and our country will also save 30.000.000 $ of foreign currency it spent for potato starch importing every year.
