New Target of Konya Seker: “Bringing as many Trees as the Population of Turkey Together with the Soil.”

Determining the target of “bringing as many trees as the population of Turkey together with the soil,” Konya Seker has also established its own Sapling production Center to achieve this goal and to bring continuity to forestation. Konya Seker began forestation works in 2004 with the target of  planting as many trees as the population of Turkey to fight drought and to turn the balance in the ecosystem, which had deteriorated, for the benefit of the producers. Konya Seker put Sapling Production Center into operation in 2002 to bring continuity to these works. Founded with a sapling production capacity of 50 decares at the beginning, Sapling Production Center, which reached 1080 decares with the areas, added later, increased its capacity to 3.1 million saplings per year.

Konya Seker carries out its forestation activities, it began in 2004, throughout Konya plains. Konya Seker planted over 19 million trees in 9.400 decares of collective forest areas, created in 66 different locations on 273 separate forestation courses, whose depths reach 8 to 10 rows on both sides, on 4.550 km distance on highways, which connect Konya to neighboring provinces and village roads. The activities, which aim to increase efficiency in unit area by making natural air conditioning and biological fight against agricultural pests as a result of the planted saplings, have provided positive results in a short time. Konya Seker also contributes to the development of orcharding in the region by supplying and producing fruit saplings and distributing them to the farmers in the region every year. In this framework, number of fruit saplings, which have been distributed to the producers in the region in the last 12 years, has exceeded 465 thousand.
